Trackstar (TQA)
The BMW Trackstar system uses three core technologies in
tracking and recovering stolen vehicles, namely Global Positioning Satellites
(GPS), Global Systems for Mobile Communication (GSM) and an
integrated motion sensor. The GPS/GSM technologies have been in existence
for many years and are now clearly the preferred technology worldwide for
stolen vehicle tracking and recovery.

BMW Trackstar 5 (Cat 5)
The unit utilises the same core technologies as the
standard BMW Trackstar unit, however it meets Thatcham Category 5
accreditation by means of inclusion of a Driver Authentication Device. This
device provides the main BMW Trackstar 5 unit with a covert signal
indicating that the driver is authorised to drive the vehicle.

All BMW Trackstar products attract a 3 year BMW Warranty.
Smartnav upgrade option
The BMW Trackstar TQA unit can be upgraded to
include BMW Smartnav, a navigation system with a discreet and
stylish LCD touch screen designed for Customers who appreciate the comfort
of visual guidance.
By means of the functions displayed on the touch screen, the
Customer can either connect to the Trafficmaster call centre and request a
route to their required destination (to be uploaded to their vehicle) or select
any pre-saved or favourite routes, or enter the postcode of the destination
into the unit manually.
If a new route is requested, the concierge service
automatically sends the data to the vehicle and the Customer can then select
the route. Distance to their next manoeuvre and destination,
and estimated time of arrival are displayed.

BMW Smartnav upgrade |
Smartnav Subscription
Once the Smartnav upgrade kit has been installed,
Trafficmaster will provide the navigation service free of charge to BMW
Customers for a period of 12 months.
This service will include:
- Navigation (50 PA routes)
- Unlimited touch screen navigation routes
- Quarterly map updates
After the first 12 months or expiry of the first
50 PA routes (which ever comes first), then the following charges will
apply:

Safe speed
- There are over 6,000 fixed safety cameras on the
- 12.7 million people receive speeding tickets each
year.
- On average, there is 1 speed camera for every 30
miles of road.
Smartnav will alert the Customer to zones
monitored by fixed safety cameras, ensuring they drive safely and within
the legal limits.
- 3 beeps as they
approach the monitored zone.
- 5 beeps immediately before
the zone.
- Continuous beeps if they go above the speed
limit.
Please note, all previous Smartnav part numbers are now
NLA thus if the Customer requires a smartnav
system then you must use the above new part numbers.
(*2) For the BMW Smartnav upgrade to function,
the Customer must purchase/install the BMW Trackstar/Trackstar 5 hardware first.
